Angela Elkordy, Eastern Michigan University
Biography

Angela Elkordy is a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership with an Instructional Technology cognate. A career long K-20 educator, Angela has significant experience with educational leadership, school administration, innovation diffusion, libraries and instructional technologies.
Recent (2013-2014) awards and honors include: a research grant award (EMU Graduate School), selection as a HASTAC Scholar 2014, 2nd Place Winner Skandalaris Business Plan Competition and recipient of the Stella and Rose Romanow Doctoral Scholarship.
Angela is a scholar-practitioner and enjoys collaborating with others through presentations and publications. This year, presentations have included "Digital Badges for Higher Education," (invited presentation for Oakland Community College Faculty), "What Do You Know? Digital Badges for Professional Development" and "Getting Started with Digital Badges" (invited workshop, sponsored by the Special Interest Group - Media Specialists) at the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL). Also in the past year, Angela has published in state (MACUL) and national (ISTE) journals on the topic of Digital Badges with co-author Clinical Assistant Professor, Kristin Fontichiaro (University of Michigan); she has also been invited to submit an article for a July publication. In addition, Angela was interviewed about her research and work with digital badges for the WeAreTeachers web site (article forthcoming) and quoted extensively in an eSchoolNews article Are Digital Badges a Disruptive Technology?
Angela's research interests include: teaching and learning in digitally-mediated or technology enhanced contexts, the use of digital badges to support, assess and communicate learning in informal and formal environments, instructional leadership in connected learning environments as well as innovative learning models for learners in all contexts, particularly professional development for teachers and school administrators.
