Biography

Peter J. Schmitz

Peter Schmitz is a second career teacher entering the education profession following a 17 year career as a research chemist for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan.  He obtained his secondary teaching certifications in Chemistry and Mathematics through Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan in May of 2009, and took a full time teaching position with South Lyon Community Schools the following fall.  Peter has taught Chemistry and AP Chemistry at South Lyon East High School for the past 5 years, and is currently finishing a Masters of Educational Leadership program at Madonna University.  He will receive his Master’s degree and administrative certificate in April, 2014.  Peter enjoys the challenge of inspiring students of all abilities to become more successful students, and commonly utilizes action research in his classroom as a feedback mechanism to advance student performance through the development of enhanced instructional practices.
